Two’s Company

With the return of Two’s Company there’s no better time to introduce our Head Chef Nigel.

Nigel is a true ambassador for North Coast local produce, and is dedicated to sourcing and serving delicious fresh food in season.

Working closely with local suppliers such as Broighter Gold, North Coast Smoke House and Etherson’s Buthers for the finest and freshest produce.

Using his knowledge for taste and flavor, Nigel creates seasonal dishes for the guests and visitors of the Portrush Atlantic Hotel.

 

What inspired you to become a chef?

Back when i was a kitchen porter, my then head Chef Hayden Black saw the potential and passion i had for cooking and encouraged me to persue this as a career.

What is your favourite dish from the new Twos’s Company menu?

It has to be the Tomohawk!!

What is your favourite ingredient to cook with?

I love using local produce, local fish, free range meats, and various oils salts and sauces to create unique flavours.

Sweet or savoury?

Definitely sweet!

If you had the chance to cook for a celebrity- who would it be?

Johnny Depp- He is a brilliant actor, and so eccentric, I  I believe the dinner conversation would be full of amazing stories.

Opus One Wines Dinner

The Portrush Atlantic Hotel was recently delighted to host Opus One Wines for an evening of delicious food, fantastic wine and wonderful company on 16th July 2019.

 

We were approached by Opus One Wine representatives initially with no specific idea in mind for theme of the dinner, to which we suggested a local inspired menu that would represent the taste, culture and atmosphere of the North Coast, using the artisan and local suppliers who we create our existing award winning dishes.

 

Pairing our courses with their suggested wines, our 6 course menu was created using the best of fresh local produce.

 

Room and table design was co-created by Natasha our General Manager and Amy from our functions team, incorporating the breath taking scenery and culture we are spoiled with here in Portrush.

 

The evening was fantastic with excellent feedback on both food and service from our team.

It was an absolute honor to work with the Opus One Wine group and host our high end guests which included some of the professional golfers taking part in The Open Championship that week, two of which made to the final day.

King of the Burgers

Nations Best Burger.

We are delighted to announce that our Head Chef Nigel Steele has won the Unilever Food Solutions Country Range Group, Best Burger competition with CRG & Hellmann’s.

As the only Chef from the island of Ireland to make it to the final which took place at Leatherhead on 11th June, Nigel was the clear winner on the day, taking home first prize.

The award winning burger “The Napkin Burger” consists of black pudding and steak mince burger, topped with Irish cheddar, bacon, local smoked brisket, tobacco onions, fried egg with a homemade BBQ sauce using Hellmann’s table top squeezie mayonnaise- from the description you can see why it is well named the Napkin Burger, (Napkin required!)

Stephen Roach, Vice President of Food & Beverage at Interstate Hotels and Resorts, said ‘this is a great achievement for Nigel and the Portrush team and this just demonstrates the amazing talent we have across our kitchens. Leveraging our teams talent through competitions is one of our key objectives – this is now our second winning award this year and there will be more to come.”

Portrush Rocks!

The Portrush Atlantic Hotel were delighted to take part in The Portrush Rocks event on St Patrick’s Day, another fantastic opportunity to engage with the locals and say thank you for their ongoing custom and support.

It is a wonderful initiative that not only brings together the community of Portrush, but welcomes tourists and visitors to the Causeway Coast to take part. A wonderful family orientated day of fun, encouraging kids to get outside and into the fresh air.

Portrush Rocks is an initative created by the local community of Portrush to encourage kids to get outside and spend less time in front of TV and game consoles. The hide and find craze is a family focused experience, encouraging people to paint a rock, hide it for others to locate.

Find a rock with Portrush Atlantic Hotel painted on it and bring it to the hotel in exchange for a delicious ice cream!
